RCC POOL RULES

The use of the swimming pools is available to most Members, their spouses, grandchildren and unmarried children living at home. The exception is that the pools are not available to House and Spousal House Members who have opted out of the Sports Activity Fee.

Guests:

All guests must be accompanied by a Member or Member’s spouse. It is the responsibility of the Member to ensure that the Member’s family and guests abide by the rules covering attire relating to the swimming pools (see the Attire section of the Membership Booklet).

Members must register the names of all guests. A fee of $20 will be charged to the Member account for each guest. A Member is permitted to bring up to five guests at one time, and no guest may be invited more than five times during the year. If a Member wishes to bring more than five guests at one time, prior permission to do so must be granted from either the Pool Director or the Clubhouse Chair. Babysitters and nannies are considered guests and they are therefore subject to all guest rules.

GENERAL RULES

  1. No one is allowed to use the pool when it is closed. The cooperation of parents is requested in this matter. The Club cannot assume responsibility for infractions of this rule.

  2. Members and guests are expected to arrive at the Club in “club attire” and change into bathing attire in the locker rooms. This includes all children.

  3. Members and their guests are required to sign in upon entering the pool area.

  4. The Pool Director or Clubhouse Committee Chair determines whether or not the prevailing weather conditions require the closing or reopening of the pool at any time.

  5. Under no circumstances will china or glassware be used for service inside the enclosed pool area. Food and drink should be consumed in the dining area or at a lounge chair and never brought into the pool or placed on the edge of the pool. In addition, members are responsible for clearing their food and trash - there is no bus service.

  6. As Members and guests leave the pool area for the day, they must clear their space by returning used towels to the towel return bin or locker room and discarding all food/drink.

  7. The use of cell phones or other electronic devices for the purpose of making or receiving calls, text messages, and emails, and scrolling social media is prohibited on the pool deck. The use of these devices is permitted in the pool locker rooms and should always be set to “silent” or “vibrate” mode. Tablets or phones may be used solely as a reading device or for personal music with earbuds. Children are also expected to refrain from using devices for media entertainment.

  8. Showers must be taken if a Member and/or guest has been engaged in physical activity or has used suntan oil or lotions before entering the pool.

  9. No one is permitted to walk along the gutter system around the main pool.  Swimmers must exit the pool using a ladder or staircase.

  10. Members having more than five (5) guests at one time must receive approval from the Pool Director or the Clubhouse Chair in advance.

CHILDREN

  1. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult or guardian at all times.

  2. The kiddie pool is intended for children ages 5 and under. Older children may use it at the discretion of the pool manager. Parents or guardians are REQUIRED by state law to supervise their children at all times inside the fenced in kiddie pool area. If a parent/guardian must leave the pool area, the children must be supervised by another adult or the children must leave with the parent.  Per state law, a lifeguard cannot supervise your children.

  3. Infants and toddlers must wear a swim diaper and bathing suit in the kiddie pool to prevent accidents. Changing of diapers is encouraged in the women’s and men's locker rooms.

  4. Members may not bring playpens, cribs, highchairs, sassy seats or infant walkers inside the pool area for safety reasons. Strollers are permitted, but must be as far away from the pool edge as is practical with the brake engaged.

MAIN POOL

  1. Children wearing a swim diaper are NOT permitted in the main pool at any time.  Only FULLY potty-trained children are allowed in the main pool.

  2. The pool manager in conjunction with the lifeguards will require children to demonstrate a level of swimming proficiency before permitting them use of the main pool.

    1. Children that do not meet the required level of proficiency will be considered non-swimmers.

    2. All non-swimmers MUST wear a Coast Guard approved PFD and require active adult supervision.  *Adult supervision is defined as the parent in the water or directly on the side of the pool where the child is swimming.

    3. All non-swimmers are restricted to the shallow end of the pool.  Under no circumstances are non-swimmers permitted in the deep end. This includes the use of the diving board.

    4. Children under 7 can only have their swim test administered by a pool manager. Ultimately the pool manager and lifeguards must be comfortable and confident that the child will be safe in the water.

    5. Non-swimmers may use the “staircase pool” without a floatation device if they can comfortably stand with their head above the water. Parents are required to actively supervise their children at all times.

  3. Deep water competent swimmers may access all parts of the pool.

  4. “No Diving” signs around the pool must be obeyed.  Diving is restricted to the diving board and diving area. Swimmers must abide by the following rules:

    1. Only qualified swimmers are allowed to use the diving board.

    2. Only one person is allowed on the diving board at any time.

    3. The diving area must be completely clear before the next diver can get on the diving board. Divers may not wait on the diving board.

    4. Running is not permitted on the diving board.

  5. For safety reasons, swimming pool equipment such as kickboards, face masks, tubes, etc. may be used in the main pool (away from the diving board) if the lifeguard on duty specifically gives approval. When the pool is being used extensively, the guards will not permit such equipment in the pool.
  6. The entry staircases to the main pool are not meant to be an area to sit or congregate. The staircase must be kept clear and accessible for Members and guests to safely enter/exit the main pool.

Locker Rooms

Plastic bag dispensers for wet bathing suits have been installed in the shower area of each pool locker room.
